Barney is bold, reckless and something of an abrasive personality, especially towards those he doesn't trust. Barney is also seen to lack maturity and is very impulsive, as seen by his decision to attempt to get the crystals himself rather than stick with the plan. Barney does legitimately want to help the Bazaar, but his own recklessness often gets in the way. He is also seen to have a snarky sense of humour, favouring sarcasm. He is also afraid of needles, as Veronika Ryan recounts to Aiden.
Barney is a tall man with hazel eyes and thick black hair, shaved up on the sides and swept up into a topknot at the back. He has a number of tattoos on his arms, most notably a tattoo of a stylised phoenix, serpent, lotus, and the number VIX (16). He also has a large amount of burn scars on his arms, most notably on his left bicep, elbow and right forearm. He wears brown cargoes reinforced with black and green strips, black and brown leather forearm guards reinforced with reddish-brown strips, a sleeveless red t-shirt with a decal, a silver chain necklace, and a sleeveless black leather Kutte reinforced with yellow and green strips and gold pins.
He uses Pretty Face, a unique Stick that is a bat reinforced with metal strips and covered with a metallic green cover. He is also effective with knives, easily killing a Peacekeeper with one.
